How to Save Money on Holiday Travel
It’s no secret that traveling during the holiday season can be expensive, as well as stressful. This is especially true if you wait too long to make your travel plans, as prices tend to skyrocket the closer we get to the holidays. That being said, there are still ways you can save money, and at JP Travel, we’re here to help make your travel plans as easy and stress-free as possible. Continue reading below for a few money-saving tips for this holiday season, and when you’re ready to book, reach out to our experienced travel agent at JP Travel to get started!
Travel During the Week
When most people travel, they usually travel on the weekends because that’s the easiest time to do so without having to take time off work. However, this holiday season, it could be beneficial to avoid traveling on the weekends and instead look for travel dates during the week. Flights are often cheaper during the week, as there are usually fewer people flying, and that stays true during the holidays. For example, if you’re still trying to get somewhere for Thanksgiving this year, consider traveling to your destination the Monday before. If possible, aim for going home on Thanksgiving, as flights are significantly less expensive. If you’re not able to fly home on Thanksgiving, consider flying home the next day or waiting until the following Monday to help save some money.
Be Flexible With Your Travel Dates
As a travel agent, one of the most important pieces of advice I can give my clients is to be flexible with their travel dates. If you have set dates you want to travel, there usually isn’t much wiggle room as far as airfare prices. However, if you’re willing to extend your trip or travel during the week, it could result in a better price. You may be amazed at how much the price of flights can change from one day to the next, but the fact of the matter is that airline prices vary from day to day, and even extending your trip by one day or cutting it short could help you save hundreds of dollars.
Use Your Miles
There are numerous credit cards today that offer rewards, points, or miles that you can use on your purchases, and the fact of the matter is that many people forget about these points until someone mentions them. If you have a credit card that gives you points or rewards, consider looking up your balance before you book a flight this holiday season. Additionally, look into the terms and conditions of your credit cards, as some offer cash back or double rewards for booking travel. While these perks might not benefit you right away, they can certainly help mitigate costs in the future.
Compare Travel Options
When you travel to a certain place frequently, it’s easy to get into the habit of taking the same route to get there. However, there are a variety of different options that can help you get from point A to point B. With that being said, if you’re interested in comparing your travel options, you also have to ask yourself what is more important: getting there for as little money as possible or having the most comfortable travel experience? As you can imagine, if you want to prioritize comfort for your trip, you’ll likely end up spending a little more money. However, if you’re looking to save, you can try to compare all possible options to help you find the best one for your budget.
