Leaving Right After the Wedding
Talk to any newlywed couple and they will tell you their wedding day was all a blur — months of planning will come to a conclusion in a day. With that in mind, it feels like a tradition to take your honeymoon right after your wedding, but from the perspective of a travel agent, we definitely suggest avoiding that. Instead of immediately heading to the airport, we suggest taking a few days, or even a few months, to relax and recover from the whirlwind that is your wedding. By doing this, you’ll be able to process the fact that you’re actually married and actually take in everything your honeymoon has to offer instead of being overwhelmed by the craziness of the last few days.
Not Planning Activities Outside of the Resort
If you plan to have your honeymoon at an all-inclusive resort, you absolutely want to take advantage of all the amenities the resort has to offer! However, what many couples come to regret is never leaving their luxurious resort. Yes, the resort may have more activities and options than you’ll ever be able to do in one trip, but there are also numerous things you can do outside of the resort walls, and you may find that getting outside for a little while can help you enjoy your trip even more.
Not Splurging On Upgrades
When it comes to travel, it’s no secret that there are countless upgrades available, from the seat you sit in on the plane to the view of your room and so much more. While some upgrades may not seem necessary, don’t write them all off just yet. Upgrading may be a little more expensive at the time, but the reason upgrades are offered is because they can help take your trip to the next level. Taking a long flight? Upgrading to a better seat could result in a more comfortable experience. Little upgrades such as that could make your trip even more special, especially considering it’s a once-in-a-lifetime trip! If you’re worried about cost, reach out to your travel agent for advice, as there are many ways to budget for the upgrades you really want.
Planning a Trip That Is Too Short
Some couples decide to intentionally plan a shorter honeymoon, known as a minimoon, but if that’s not your plan, then one mistake you have to look out for is planning a trip that is too short. We understand that sometimes life happens and you’re not always able to take two or three weeks off for a honeymoon, but we also know that many couples regret not taking a longer honeymoon. It’s nice to get away and spend time with your new spouse, just the two of you, so regardless of where you plan to go, make sure to keep the timing and length of your trip in mind so that you’re able to get the most out of it.
Not Taking a Honeymoon
Taking a honeymoon is by no means a required part of getting married, but it’s highly encouraged. Couples who have never taken a honeymoon often regret it, and while it’s good it’s completely fine to put your honeymoon off — sometimes even encouraged — make sure it doesn’t totally slip your mind.
That being said, many couples are worried about the money or having enough PTO to take time away from work, and these are valid concerns. However, there’s one secret that many couples don't tell you. While the idea of a stereotypical honeymoon is to go somewhere tropical and spend countless days laying in the sun, it doesn’t matter where you go for your honeymoon or what you end up doing. The most important part of a honeymoon is that you get to spend some quality time with your new spouse and enjoy being newlyweds!
